UMMM....Yummy Cotton Candy!

The kids love cotton candy and I really enjoy sharing that with them. Jaxen actually ate some for the first time. I've tried giving him some before but he wouldn't try it. This time he did and he really enjoyed it as you can tell it's all over his face. Kaeryn and Tristan really liked this cotton candy because it came with three different flavors. We really did have a great time.

Sacramento county fair!

On memorial day, Ron surprised us all by waking us up and taking us to the Sacramento county fair. It was alot of fun. We enjoyed all of the animals( espically the horses). Jaxen wasn't scared of them this time like he was when we took him to a petting zoo at easter time. He actually went right up to the animals and tried to touch them. Even the horses which he has never done( every time I tried putting him on a horse or showed him one he would get upset). But this time he enjoyed the horses. There was even a pig that had gotten out of his pen and was running around through all the aisles of pens. The pig ran right up to Jaxen in his stroller and Jaxen leaned forward as far as he could to hug the pig. It was so cute!
After we saw the animals and other displays we let the kids each have a turn on one of the rides. Kaeryn choose to come on the merry-go-round with me and Jaxen and Tristan wanted to go on a truck ride. That was fun to watch them. Jaxen like the merry-go-round until the wind blew in his face after that he kept trying to get off. He just does not like the wind at all. But we still had fun. We also enjoyed our tradition of cotton candy(every carnival we go to we get cotton candy). It was a wonderful day. Perfect weather, it wasn't to hot and the wind was a cool wind so it kept you cool while you were in the sun. After that we came home and had a bar-b-que for dinner. We had a great time together as a family!

Jaxen's first painting!

Today I got the fingerpaints out and let Jaxen paint for the first time. He recently has been interested in coloring so I thought this would be a fun activity for him. He loved it! I had fun watching. It appears we might have another artist in the family.

Let's play Twister!

One of the entries in the parade had put together a giant twister game. They would periodically stop and lay it out on the road and invite people to come play. they would play until the parade started up again. Kaeryn and Tristan ran up to play. It was so cute and fun to see! They loved being part of the parade!

Western festival parade

This weekend was the Western Festival here in Elk Grove. Elk Grove started out as a farming community so they have a western festival to celebrate that. We took the kids to the parade. It was fun to see. We scored on the spot we found to sit. It was on a corner and right under a tree. We stayed nice and cool in the shade. The kids had fun. We had our tradional cotton candy. The theme this year was children's board games. It was fun to see how creative the entries were. My favorite part was the horses of course. The budwiesser Horses were there. Those clydesdales are amazing to see. They are giant but beautiful! It was a wonderful day.

The canon blast!

We just happened to be there when they were giving a demonstration. It was pretty cool actually to watch. The actors did everything as if they were really back in the 1800's. They lit the canon by sunlight. Each person had a specific job to do. They taught us a bit about history while we were waiting for the canon to be loaded and ready to go. They actually just shot a styrophome ball but it still had a big blast. It scared Jaxen a bit but Kaeryn and Tristan thought it was pretty cool. Ron and I love history and we love to share it with our family. Now Kaeryn loves to learn about history and hopefully Tristan and Jaxen will enjoy it also.

Sutter's Fort

Last weekend we decided that we needed to go and explore. We went to Sutter's Fort. It is in the Sacramento area. It was like taking a step back in time. We went at a time when the actors were dressed up for the part. It was great. Ron and I love history and we love to share that with our kids. Going to the fort was a history lesson. We learned all kinds of things from how they traveled in wagons back in the 1800's, how they sailed in ships and how they trapped animals. We also were there for a demonstration of the canon. That was pretty cool to see. And not to mention a bit loud. Sutter's fort is named after John Sutter who settled there. He was an important part of history for this area. It was a fun adventure.
