The Folsom Powerhouse

For Mother's day I wanted to go on a scenic drive. It's one of my favorite things to do. So we got into the car and started toward the mountains. We decided that we wanted to check out Folsom lake because the water levels are supposed to be back to normal and we hadn't seen it yet. But instead we stopped at the Folsom powerhouse. It's a historical point and we being history lovers stopped to see it. It's said to be one of the very first ones built back in the 1800's. It was pretty cool. Those pipes are absolutely huge!
We were really taken back at how big it was. Tristan couldn't get over it. he kept exclaiming wow! and look at that!
This is one of the old generators. It is also pretty big. In this room they had a model set up and the kids were able to turn a handle to create their own electricity. It was to show how the whole thing works to create power. Silly me, I was so interested in what the guy was saying that I forgot to take pics of the kids doing the experiment. But they did have fun with it.
The wall that holds the building up is the dam. It was built by prisoners in the penetinuary back in the 1800's. They carved out the rock and brought it here. It really was quite a site. You really can't tell from the pictures, but it was worth seeing for us.
